What do Albanians warm up with? Distribution by districts, electricity in second

The cold days that affected our country once again brought attention to how we cope with it. What ways do we use more to die? Firewood and coal seem to be the main source of heating for Albanian families. The latest data available from INSTAT show that almost half of the families use stoves to heat their homes, while electricity ranks second with 43.8% of families.

Less common is gas heating, which was chosen by only 6.2% of family economic units, while the number of those who choose diesel and gasoil is almost negligible.

The sources of heating vary according to the districts and mainly it is the poorest districts, where wood is chosen as a heating alternative. According to INSTAT, Kukësi and Dibra are the 2 counties that use this source of heating the most, with 96% of families.

Meanwhile, the situation is different in Tirana and Vlora, where the highest percentage of the use of electricity as the main source of heating was recorded with 68.9% and 59% of households, respectively. The highest percentages of families that use gas as the main source of heating are recorded in the Durrës district, with 12.0%.

However, a number of studies in our country have estimated that the high costs of meeting heating remain a challenge, while many families risk falling into energy poverty. A study with 650 families in rural areas in 12 regions of the country, carried out by the EDEN center, showed that 81.5% of Albanian families find it difficult to pay electricity bills.
