A giant photo with the smiling face of Manuel Macron took the main facade of the Prime Ministry in Tirana on Sunday evening. Following the outcome of the second round in France, Prime Minister Rama hastened to salute, together with a dozen world leaders, the victory of the current French president. The usual contender was Marine Le Pen, the far-right politician who has collected eight electoral failures in her career so far. Only Lulzim Basha can approach him, said a Democrat of Foltore.

The enthusiasm of European politics for Macron's victory has various reasons and causes. Chancellor Scholz, along with other leaders within the Union, breathes freely into the continuation of the European project in a turbulent time for the continent. Others in Europe and the US see Macron's presence at this stage of the Ukrainian crisis as an avoidance of the risk of Le Pen coming to power, who is also known as an early sympathizer of Vladimir Putin and may gave the policy of Western sanctions against Russia a completely different course.

In this corner of the continent, in the Western Balkans, they rejoice that the loss of a Eurosceptic and hostile figure of the EU enlargement process like Marine Le Pen, keeps alive the hopes that the process of bringing the Western Balkans closer to the EU will continue.

This is where the hope lies, but also the problem disguised behind this early aspiration of the Balkan peoples. Of course, with Le Pen, European policy towards the Western Balkans was likely to suffer a strong curb, even worse than the current curb. Le Pen did not bother to deal with Albanians and Muslims in general during her political career, so much so that Skanderbeg Square was posted on her social media accounts on a day of forgiveness of Muslim believers, accompanied by "spicy" comments of the lady in words.

The French president's tenure and the expected victory of his political movement in the June parliamentary elections are also expected to close Macron's mediocre political reckoning season at the expense of EU opening and enlargement. A process which in words has become very popular these weeks of war in Ukraine, but which in deeds is still not seen on the horizon. Even because of the sour attitude of "Monsieur le President"!
