What should the new President look like?
The Presidency of Albania

More than 30 years of experience of political, economic, social, cultural and moral transition of Albanians has shown that the election of the Albanian head of state has always been accompanied by strong discussions, talks under the mat inside the political camp and at the end of the process, the election of the President has were always part of the political calculations, to sit in the chair of the head of state a man who offered the relevant guarantees not to "open problems" during his term. As a result, the building of the former Soviet embassy in Tirana, adapted to the Presidency, has seen some passers-by in the role of head of state.

Once, when the election of the President of the Republic was carried out on a certain agreement between the political parties, a president like Alfred Moisiu was elected, who still continues to be the guiding and inspiring model of how the head of state should be. And sometimes, when his election was dictated by the "force of numbers in Parliament", the product was a President, away from the President.

The question now is who will be the new President. In fact, the right question is what should the new and second President represent, will we have a transparent process this time or will the new Presidency be the next head?

Basically, the candidate relates to the process. A transparent, well-thought-out and correct process offers a serious candidacy. But, if we evaluate what we have heard, that every MP of the majority will secretly propose three names, without any criteria and reference model, this process leads nowhere and offers at most an opportunity to have fun with self-proclaimed candidates "based on popular vote ”, which is an insult to the intelligence of Albanians. God forbid that one should aim at exactly a "collective fun", as has ever happened in parliamentary elections. But, if an MP with more or less "fun" skills in the multitude of MPs in these three decades of political transition does not endanger us too much the "high" level of our Parliament, with the election of the President of the Republic can not and should not be done games. Enough!

This time the election of the President, more than the development of a correct institutional process, must give a very important message: the end of the protracted Albanian political transition!

And this message is given by electing at the head of the State a personality who comes from the ranks of those who have experienced in the skin the lack of a democratic state.

For the sake of truth, under the rule of Edi Rama, important milestones have been set for the treatment of the communist past in Albania. Compensation has been and continues to be given to families persecuted during the communist regime, independent institutions have been set up to deal with the communist past, etc., which no right-wing government has done so far.

What are the advantages of such a choice?
