A massive fire has engulfed the St. Peter area in Lalzi Bay.
The flames have seriously endangered a tourist complex, but it is now reported that the situation is being brought under control.
The mayor of Durrës, Emirjana Sako, has also reacted to the event, announcing the evacuation of vacationers from the hotel for safety reasons, as well as families living nearby.
The intervention of the engaged firefighting teams is difficult due to the wide spread of the flames.
Teams will remain on the scene throughout the night to help extinguish the flames and ensure that the fire does not spread.
"A large-scale fire has engulfed the St. Peter area in Lalzi Bay. The rapid spread of the flames has been favored by strong winds.
The firefighting structures of the Municipality of Durres and the emergency services immediately intervened on the ground and for several hours have been continuing the intensive operation to bring the situation under control and prevent the further spread of the fire.
For security reasons and to guarantee the lives of citizens, a complete evacuation of all people who were in a tourist complex and a private residence near the danger zone was immediately carried out.
Numerous human and logistical capacities have been engaged in this massive operation at the regional and national levels.
The operation remains difficult due to the wide spread of the flames, but the operational teams are working non-stop to completely isolate the fires. The Municipality of Durres, in close coordination with the Ministry of Interior, Civil Protection and all emergency services, is following the situation step by step and keeping all its capacities on full alert until the situation is fully normalized", said Sako.
