Eljodor Ndini, Director of the Funeral Services Agency in the Municipality of Tirana, was arrested three days ago by the capital's Police after a months-long investigation with the Prosecutor's Office. Ndini and his three subordinates sold the graves in Tufina for 2 million old lek.
Four employees of the Municipality of Tirana, the director himself Eljodor Ndini and his three subordinates - employees of the Funeral Service, have been handcuffed for accusations of corruption and abuse of office. A genuine corrupt scheme that has been uncovered by the capital's prosecution body.
These arrests highlighted the "bargaining" that takes place in the Funeral Service of Tirana to secure a grave for the people who die. Those who have money and pay well, the responsible officials reserve graves for them by the roadside, those who don't have the money to be laid to rest in thorns or canals.
Fax News brings shocking evidence about this phenomenon that was recently discovered by the Police and Prosecutor's Office of Tirana. Newborn children who die for certain reasons are exhumed and their place is sold to other people who want their relatives to rest by the side of the road.
For people who do not pay for the "last apartment" of their relatives, the authorities under Tirana Municipality take them to the most distant places. Such is the case of a citizen who says that his father and brother are in the Tufina cemetery, while his mother is in the Sharra cemetery.
"Newborn children who are not visited by their families are exhumed and their places are sold. When the disaster happened to me in the family, they asked me for 300,000 ALL. The prices vary up to 5 thousand euros, the graves are given according to the level and economic stratum", says another citizen.
