A fatal accident with seven victims occurred in Romania, where some were PAOK fans, while they were on their way to watch their favorite team's match in France.
There were ten people in the van, two of Albanian nationality, but with Greek citizenship.
The Albanian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that 29-year-old Vasil Palo is one of the victims, while another Albanian, Genci Sadiku, is injured but out of danger.
All the people traveling in this van were between 25 and 30 years old.
According to Romanian authorities, the van attempted to overtake a tanker truck, but collided head-on with another truck.
Emergency helicopters were unable to intervene due to poor weather conditions, while the injured were taken to the Lugoj city hospital.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Greek Embassy in Bucharest are in constant contact with the Romanian authorities, to identify the victims and support the families.
PAOK has declared a state of mourning and announced that it will cover all costs for the return of the bodies and assistance to the injured. Dozens of other PAOK fans who had set off for Lyon have returned to Greece. Meanwhile, the request to cancel the match has not been accepted by the European Football Association.
Condolences for the tragic accident have been expressed by all Greek party leaders, as well as Greek football clubs.
