The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has completed the investigations and sent for trial to the Special Court of First Instance criminal proceeding no. 141/1 of 2023, against a group of persons accused of international drug trafficking, production and sale of narcotics, as well as creation and participation in a structured criminal group.

According to SPAK, a total of 11 people, Albanian and foreign citizens, have been charged in this proceeding, who are suspected of having acted as a criminal network with international reach, in collaboration with criminal organizations in Latin America, for the importation of cocaine-type narcotics to Albania and European Union countries.

Among the defendants are Aldi Zonja, Artjon Çaushllari (alias Gjika), Ismajl Abdurrahmani, Jose Ramon Zacarias Vasquez and Geis Sejfullai, accused, among other things, of trafficking narcotics within the framework of a structured criminal group and leading this group.

Meanwhile, Klajd Birçe, Hiwlenn Ledezma Narvaez, Samuel Alfonso Moreno Serrano and Endi Sejdini are accused of drug trafficking and participation in a structured criminal group.

According to the investigative acts, some of the defendants are also accused of producing and selling narcotics, in residential and commercial premises in the Manza area, Durrës, during February 2024.

Also, one of the defendants has been charged with the unauthorized production, possession and sale of cold weapons.

Investigations show that the group prepared the conditions and infrastructure for the importation from the Dominican Republic of two shipments declared as "cattle hides", within which about 90 kilograms of cocaine were found hidden, with a market value of about 3.6 million euros.

These cargoes arrived at the Port of Durres in July and November 2024 and were then stored in facilities in the Mulleti area, in Tirana.

SPAK informs that the investigations have also revealed the involvement of other persons in this activity, therefore it has been decided to separate the acts and continue the investigations in a new criminal proceeding without a perpetrator, for several serious criminal offenses in the field of narcotics and organized crime.

This proceeding is also related to a previous case from 2022, where the same persons were accused of organizing, financing and participating in the importation from Colombia to Albania of a large quantity of cocaine hidden in “artificial organic fertilizer”. In this case, the Special Court has issued guilty verdicts, confirmed by the Appeals Court, while the trial against a Colombian citizen is still ongoing.

SPAK emphasizes that the investigation was conducted using special investigative techniques and in cooperation with domestic and foreign law enforcement agencies.
