The GJKKO has rejected the request of businessman Valter Begaj to separate his case and the two entities Net Shpk and Dam Shpk.

Begaj has been charged with abuses with ARA tenders, a case that also includes Belinda Balluku's former subordinate, Evis Berberi.

The request was filed by his lawyer with the argument that the process is being dragged out by the other co-defendants.

But the request was rejected by the court because it is not in accordance with the provisions of Article 93 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Evis Berberi was arrested on March 14, 2024, on charges of corruption and money laundering. Valter Begaj is accused of active corruption, fraud with consequences and money laundering.

According to SPAK, Berberi is involved in corruption cases involving 8 tenders worth millions of euros.

SPAK has suspicions that Berberi, initially as Director of Energy Efficiency, developed three procurement procedures worth around 1.2 million euros that were won by the company DAAM, which was run by Valter Begaj, but which de facto, according to SPAK, was owned by Berberi.

SPAK also suspects that during the time Berberi was leading ARA, the same company won three other tenders worth around 1 million euros.

Investigations have revealed that this company was used to transfer large amounts of money to it from another company, "Net Group", owned by entrepreneur Begaj, through various transactions.

The money spent in favor of the "Daam" company was used to purchase real estate in the name of this company.

These actions have raised suspicions among prosecutors that they are facing a money laundering activity.

The transactions from "Net Group" to the company "Daam", indirectly owned by Mr. Berberi, coincide, according to the investigations, with the time when the company "Net Group" was the winner of several tenders announced by the Energy Efficiency Agency and the Road Authority, under the direction of Mr. Berberi.
