A serious road accident recorded in Romania has caused a great tragedy, taking the lives of seven fans of the Greek team PAOK, who were traveling to France to watch the match against Olympique Lyon in the Europa League.

According to Top Channel, two Albanian citizens, Genci Sadiku and Vasil Palo, were also in the accident van.

There is still no official information on their health condition or whether they are among the victims or injured.

The serious incident occurred on a highway segment near the city of Lugoj, in western Romania.

According to Romanian authorities, the van carrying the fans attempted to overtake a tanker truck, but while returning to its lane, it first collided with it, before crossing the road on the opposite side of the road and colliding head-on with another truck. A total of four vehicles were involved in the accident.

Six people died on the spot from the violent collision, while another died while being transported to the hospital.

Three other people were injured and were initially taken to Lugoj Hospital, and then transferred to Timisoara University Hospital. Authorities said emergency helicopters were unable to intervene due to adverse weather conditions.

All the fans in the van were between the ages of 25 and 30. Greek media report that the vehicle, designed for 8+1 people, was carrying 10 passengers, which may have contributed to the serious consequences of the accident.

The Greek Foreign Ministry and the Greek embassy in Bucharest have confirmed that they are in constant contact with Romanian authorities to identify the victims and provide assistance to their families.

Meanwhile, the PAOK club has declared mourning and announced that it will cover all expenses for the return of the bodies and support for the injured.

The tragedy has also brought back memories of PAOK fans of the 1999 accident, when six club supporters lost their lives in another road accident in Greece, making this event even more painful for the team's fan community from Thessaloniki.
