Tirana gets ready for school/ 120 municipal police officers near institutions,

The new school year begins on September 14th and the capital's schools are in the final preparations to welcome students.

The Municipality of Tirana has taken a series of measures to guarantee the regular and safe start of the learning process in educational institutions, including building maintenance, cleaning, verification of road signs, and transportation.

There are 146 public schools in Tirana, of which 7 are new ones that are opening their doors this school year. But the Astir area continues without a school for its children. The educational institution is still under construction and was not completed this early September, but it is planned to be ready within the 2026-2027 school season.

Meanwhile, through a special order, the municipality has tasked the capital's Municipal Police with engaging its employees for the smooth running of the first day of school. In total, there will be 120 municipal police officers.

"Every employee of the Municipal Police has taken on the obligation to have periodic meetings with the security officer in schools and the other obligation is regarding the safety of these children before they enter the school premises, which means, every employee of the Municipal Police, mainly of the road traffic, has taken on the obligation to accompany children on the white lines, to provide assistance in crossing from one lane to another and for the process to begin normally and not have any problems", said the director of the Municipal Police in Tirana, Elona Lalaj.

One of the elements that will be kept under control going forward is food safety, while from the beginning of the learning process until its completion, there will be periodic checks.

"One of the obligations of the Municipal Police is related to food safety, we have taken measures and all services have taken on the obligations to remove street vendors who may circulate or sell around the perimeter of the school. The service around the perimeter of the school will be uninterrupted, there will be periodic checks ," said Lalaj.

The Municipal Police appeals to parents who will accompany children to school, or even drivers who have authorization for special transportation of children, to respect road signs, parking spaces and not become an obstacle to traffic flow or the entry of students into schools.
