Albanian injured with gun during robbery, 30 compatriots go to the 60-year-old

Three days earlier, during a shootout inside his villa in Foria di Centola – in Cilento in the province of Salerno – he had wounded one of three thieves, who were trying to rob money and jewelry from his safe.

On Monday evening, the 60-year-old entrepreneur, owner of a construction company, who took his hunting rifle and opened fire in defense of his family and property, found 30 Albanians – compatriots of the wounded 20-year-old thief – outside his house, who were seeking a confrontation with the Italian and, almost certainly, had vengeful intentions.

The group of Albanians, all from the province of Caserta, arrived in Cilento in powerful cars, Italian media report. Those who sought a face-to-face meeting with the 60-year-old left only after the police arrived.

Since last evening, two Carabinieri patrols have been guarding the businessman's villa to avoid possible retaliation.

On June 22, in the middle of the night, a gang of Albanians consisting of at least three people targeted two isolated houses in the village of Cilento.

After robbing the first house, they entered the second. But on the upper floor, the builder and his wife were sleeping.

The man heard the noises, grabbed a hunting rifle, and went downstairs to check who had entered the house.

A shootout began with the robbers, where one of the robbers was injured and fell to the ground, while the others managed to escape, running away.

After the arrival of the police and ambulance, the injured Albanian – a 20-year-old – was taken to the hospital in Vallo della Lucania and underwent a delicate surgical operation: the rifle bullet hit him between the chest and shoulder.

The next day, he was taken by helicopter to the Cardarelli hospital in Naples, where he is still hospitalized in serious condition.

A second robber, 23 years old, also of Albanian nationality, is said to have been injured. But he is still on the run.

Since Monday (June 24), some of their relatives have arrived from the province of Caserta (Naples), who are helping the Carabinieri and Civil Protection in the search for other members of the group.

His smartphone was last active near the small village in Bulgaria. But there is still no trace of him.

The Carabinieri investigations, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vallo della Lucania, continue.

The Italian, who fired the gun, is now being investigated for serious injuries, while the young Albanian, who is in the hospital, has been investigated by the prosecution as a suspect in attempted robbery, as has the other accomplice on the run. Meanwhile, some of the goods stolen by the Albanians have been seized by the police.

However, tensions remain high. The prefecture is considering strengthening security measures in the area to prevent further incidents.
