Tirana police have arrested two people in the capital for illegal possession of weapons.

According to the police announcement, the first case concerns the arrest of 21-year-old Petrit Kurti, who was detained after a physical search on "George W. Bush" Street, while he was in the company of his uncle.

During the search, a firearm, a pistol with ammunition, was found on him, which he possessed without a permit. Meanwhile, his uncle, 46-year-old AK, was released on bail, as according to the police, he obstructed the discovery of the truth by giving contradictory statements about the case.

In the second case, police arrested 30-year-old Halit Ajazi after a search of the vehicle he was driving on "Dritan Hoxha" street found a pistol and around 40,000 euros.

He was authorized to carry a firearm only in his apartment, while he had no supporting document for the amount of money.

Police announcement:

As a result of systematic controls and those based on information obtained operationally, with the aim of guaranteeing public safety and preventing criminal events, Police Commissariat No. 5 and the Special Force "Eagle", in cooperation with the Criminal Assets Tracing Section, struck during the last 24 hours, 2 cases of illegal possession of firearms. Specifically, within the framework of the "Contingent" operation:

- citizen PK, 21 years old, was arrested and his uncle, citizen AK, 46 years old, was released on bail. During the physical search, on “George W. Bush” street, where the 2 citizens were traveling together, the 21-year-old was found to be in possession of 1 firearm, a pistol with ammunition, which he possessed without a permit. Meanwhile, the 46-year-old has obstructed the discovery of the truth, by giving contradictory statements about the case;

-Citizen HA, 30 years old, was arrested because a search of the vehicle he was driving on "Dritan Hoxha" street found 1 pistol and about 40,000 euros. He was authorized to carry a firearm, only in his apartment, while he did not have a document to prove the amount of money. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the money." - the police announced.

The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office for further action.
