The shooting that occurred during the night between Sunday and Monday in an isolated villa in Foria di Centola, in the province of Salerno in Italy, has shocked the local community, after a young Albanian man died.
Three young men of Albanian origin are suspected of attempting to burglarize a villa.
The owner, a 60-year-old local businessman, is suspected of catching the criminals red-handed and shooting them several times, fatally wounding one of the thieves.
The body of the 25-year-old was found today in the village of San Severino, a mountain village in the municipality of Centola, thanks to information provided by the 60-year-old himself, who spontaneously presented himself at the Public Prosecutor's Office in Vallo della Lucania to recount the incident.
The entrepreneur's confession and the discovery of the body
Shocked, in tears and accompanied by his lawyer, the man reconstructed the facts before the judge on duty. After shooting the 25-year-old to death, he allegedly dragged the body into the forest area of San Severino, partially hidden by vegetation. For two days he kept the secret, until he decided to cooperate with investigators and discover the truth.
Carabinieri from the Sapri company, dog units and a helicopter intervened at the scene and identified the body thanks to the man's indications. The body is now at the disposal of the judiciary for an autopsy that will clarify the exact dynamics of death.
Investigated for assault, now he risks being charged with murder
The entrepreneur is currently under investigation for grievous bodily harm, for the injury of a second person – a 28-year-old Albanian – who is still hospitalized in serious condition at the Cardarelli hospital in Naples. But after the discovery of the body and the confession, his situation worsens: he could also be called to account for involuntary manslaughter (or intentional murder, if the ballistics test confirms it) and concealment of the corpse.
Tension in the country: the community of Foria di Centola in shock
The tragic event shocked the entire community of Foria and the Cilento area. During the night after the events, some citizens reported the presence of a group of foreigners, about thirty people of Albanian nationality, near the entrepreneur's villa. Apparently, they were relatives of the deceased young man and the injured man.
A climate of tension and concern now prevails in the area, where the population seeks clarity and certainty. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Vallo della Lucania is evaluating all the hypotheses of the crime and is collecting all the useful elements to determine the exact responsibility of the Italian.
