An important event for the Albanian community was marked on the Sunday we left behind in New York. The Besi association inaugurated the Albanian school "Fol Shqip" in Ridgewood, Queens.

Over 60 registered children between the ages of 4 and 21 showed interest in learning and acquiring the Albanian language.

This premier educational institution, which will operate every Sunday from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, will offer courses in Albanian language and traditional dance.

The initiative for this initiative was taken by "Shoqata Besi", which serves as a cultural and support center for the Albanian community originating from the village of Besa in Montenegro.

But in the "Fol Shqip" school there are no restrictions, as all children interested in learning the Albanian language can join.

And not only that.

In order to preserve tradition and culture, in addition to Albanian lessons - "Shkolla Fol Shqip" also offers dance classes, where Albanian children learn to dance well-known Albanian dances.

The school's curriculum, focused on the Albanian language and traditional dances, aims to connect the new generations of Albanians in New York with their heritage. These classes are not just for learning; they are to experience and preserve a rich cultural heritage, fostering a sense of identity and community among Albanian youth in the diaspora.

The chairman of the General Council of the "Besi" association, Mirsad Hasanaj, said that "for many years and until today, the inhabitants of the Albanian villages in Montenegro and with it the village of Besë, were forbidden to study in the Albanian language. Entire generations passed with such a desire, but they never managed to realize it, because the Yugoslav regime, for reasons of assimilation, did not allow such a thing."

Their initiative has been welcomed by hundreds of thousands of Albanians living in the United States, as well as by the Ministry of Education and Sports in Albania and the Ministry of Diaspora.
