Scabies is reawakened! The doctor raises the alarm: Teenagers most affected,

Erjona Shehu, a dermatologist invited to "Wake Up", on Top Channel, has shown that scabies has reawakened and the cases of this highly contagious disease have increased.

This disease affects teenagers more and the patients go to be visited all as a family.

"After the pandemic, we see an increase in cases of scabies. Younger ages are more affected, teenagers. The patient comes for a visit with the whole family behind, so we have a whole group, or a family circle because it is contagious, highly transmissible and this results in the spread in the population", said Erjona Shehu.

The doctor says that once this contagious disease came from poor personal hygiene, but now it is seen in the middle and upper classes.

"But what surprises us the most is what we see in the middle and upper classes. We see that there is a spread, it is no longer differentiating or only in the hygienic measures that we take in our premises. The first thing that comes to mind and is related to the post-pandemic period has been that people are very closed and isolated from each other, and scabies has its own specificity that during the winter period when we are closed, there is a more widespread big, clothes are changed less, there are less effects of the sun. And then another factor that is thought to be related to scabies is the fact that we are seeing drug resistance in scabies patients. They are starting to not be as efficient as they were before. It is generally direct physical contact, a prolonged handshake, no handshake, what do we do, hugging, sexual intercourse, using the clothes of an individual who is infected with scabies, it can be the use of beds, towels, personal belongings, etc. All these must be isolated for 96 hours, put in a black bag and stay in the dark for 96 hours", said doctor Erjona Shehu.
