A denunciation by lawyer Ermal Hamataj on social networks has once again called into question the standards of Albanian justice.
Hamataj has published the announcement of the Tirana Court, indicating that the next hearing for the citizen he represents is scheduled for February 8, 2027, at 10:00 AM, about six months after the previous hearing.
The lawyer states that the previous hearing was held last week, but was postponed due to what he calls a "wage strike."
His denunciation comes at a time when the issue of increasing the salaries of magistrates has received special attention, creating a contrast between the dragging out of court hearings for citizens and the quick decision-making of courts on their salaries. Hamataj points out the delays and legal processes when it comes to issues that affect citizens.
"Today the Tirana court notified my party of the next session. I didn't pay attention when it started, because I thought I would mark the date later on the calendar. Later has come now, I see that the next session has been scheduled for February 8, 2027, at 10:00."
Hamataj continues by emphasizing that the previous session was held last week, but was postponed due to the "salary strike."
"Is it normal (I know very well that it is not legal) to postpone the hearing for 6 months? How do I or my party know that we will be alive after 6 months? If this is not independence, I will kill myself. Only our judiciary has independence even from the law...", writes the lawyer.
