Albanian forces pass NATO test

The Light Infantry Battalion Group (LIBG) has been certified "Mission Capable", following the completion of the evaluation process conducted within the framework of the "Arb Shield-26" exercise, in the Biza training region.

At the closing ceremony of the exercise, attended by the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj; Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji; commanders, NATO representatives, military attaches and partners, Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi praised the certification as an important achievement for the Land Force and the Armed Forces.

"Today, the result speaks clearly: The Light Infantry Battalion Group has been certified 'Mission Capable'. This is an achievement that we should be proud of. But, among other things, it is also a responsibility. The responsibility to maintain the standard, to turn this experience into a sustainable operational capacity and the responsibility to be ready to demonstrate this capability whenever the mission requires it", said Minister Nufi.

The "Arbrit Shield-26" exercise served as a complete and rigorous evaluation process, developed according to CREVAL areas, testing the structure's ability to plan, command, deploy and conduct operations in a complex operational environment, in accordance with NATO standards and procedures.

The national certification was conducted under the monitoring of NATO representatives, focusing on the standardization and interoperability of the Albanian Armed Forces with allied forces.

"Albania is and will remain a committed ally, contributing responsibly to the Alliance and constantly working to increase its capabilities. In this regard, the modernization of the Armed Forces is an unstoppable process," declared the Minister of Defense.

Linking the certification process to the transformation of the Armed Forces, Minister Nufi emphasized that modernization is not only related to equipment, but also to the way of planning, training and conducting operations.

"The modernization we are undertaking aims precisely at this: to build more capable, more mobile, more protected, more technologically advanced and fully interoperable Armed Forces with the forces of allied countries," he said.

At the end of the ceremony, Minister Nufi praised the work of the commanders, staffs, instructors, evaluators and all military and civilian personnel engaged in the exercise, underlining that the certification is proof of their work, discipline, preparation and professionalism.

"Arbrit Shield-26" constitutes another step in consolidating operational capacities and increasing the readiness of the Armed Forces to fulfill national missions and commitments within the framework of the NATO Alliance.

In his welcoming speech during the ceremony, President Begaj described the certification as evidence of the progress of the Armed Forces, as well as the high level of preparation, discipline and professionalism of the personnel.

"Today, here in Biza, you demonstrated not only high tactical preparation, but also resilience and strong military character. You showed the ability to plan, coordinate and act in a complex operational environment," said Begaj.

In his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he emphasized the importance of military readiness, which, according to him, is built through continuous training and professionalism.

Referring to the security situation in the region and beyond, including the war in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, hybrid threats, cyberattacks and disinformation, Begaj underlined the need to strengthen defense capacities and guarantee national security.

The President also focused on the importance of alliances and particularly the partnership with NATO and the United States of America. He emphasized that the “Mission Capable” certification represents the real ability of forces to deploy and operate with operational effectiveness, alongside allies, whenever required.

Begaj also praised the role of investments in the defense industry, the modernization of structures, the development of military capacities and defense infrastructure.

In this context, he appreciated the strategic partnership with the United States and the continued American support for increasing Albania's defense capacities.
