15-year-old Albanian footballer dies after crashing into car while returning

A serious tragedy has shocked the Albanian community in Italy. Manuel Korreshi, only 15 years old, lost his life after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle at night in the province of Vicenza.

The incident took place along the Riviera Berica, in the municipality of Barbarano Mossano. The accident was recorded shortly after 01:00 on Sunday, September 20.

According to the preliminary reconstruction of the event, the 15-year-old was riding his bicycle on Provincial Road 247, heading north, when he was hit from behind by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.

The collision was severe. Manuel crashed into the asphalt and then ended up in the roadside ditch, a few meters from the impact site.

The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and called emergency services.

The medical team arrived at the scene and found the 15-year-old unconscious. He was intubated on the spot and urgently transported to the San Bortolo hospital in Vicenza, where he was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit.

Despite the doctors' efforts and after several hours between life and death, his condition did not improve.

Manuel Korreshi passed away shortly before 8:00 PM.

The driver of the vehicle, who stopped after the accident, told the carabinieri that he had not seen the bicycle.

"It was very dark. I didn't see him at all until I suddenly found myself in front of him," he is said to have declared, still shaken by the event.

The Vicenza Carabinieri carried out verifications at the scene and have launched investigations to determine the exact dynamics of the accident and possible responsibilities.

Authorities must also verify whether the 15-year-old's bicycle had its lights on at the time of the collision.

The prosecution is also expected to assess the possibility of seizing the vehicle and bicycle, while the case may be investigated as a road homicide, depending on the elements that emerge from the investigation.

Manuel Korreshi lived in Castegnero Nanto, together with his mother. His parents are of Albanian origin.

The 15-year-old was a student at the Lampertico Institute in Vicenza and had a great passion for football.

He had previously played for the youth teams of Longare Castegnero, and most recently was part of the U16 team of Este, in the province of Padua. Manuel even managed to score a goal with his new team.

The news of his death has shocked family, school friends and teammates.

"Fly high, bomber," his friends wrote in the first tributes on social media.

The mayor of Castegnero Nanto, Manuela Vecchiatti, expressed the community's pain after the tragic news.

"It is a tragedy that has deeply touched us. Manuel was a boy of only 15 years old and his death has shocked our entire community. At this moment, our thoughts go above all to his family, to whom we stand close in their pain," she said.

The messages from his friends have been numerous: "Rest in peace, Manu", "Forever one of us", "You left too soon".

Investigations to fully elucidate the accident continue.
