The owner of the horses that were shot in pairs in Llogara, in a statement to Euronews Albania, burst into tears and grief over the serious incident.

Xenofon Konomi recounted the details of the incident, saying that the police did not arrive at the scene, despite his complaint.

He appeals for the incident to be investigated urgently and the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

"As I said two weeks ago, out of 22 horses that were there on the Llogara mountain, they were shot with shotguns, in pairs. Bullets were found in the animals' bodies and backs. We went with the veterinarian, except for the police who did not come to the scene ," he says.

He says that at first he thought it was an attack by wild animals, but he was shocked when he saw the bullets in the animals' backs.

"They have touched me deeply. With those horses I supported my family and my work, I transported tourists. They killed me just because they drank water from the fields. I want the perpetrators to be punished," said Konomi. While you find animals with bullets in their backs, where do you think? Initially, there could be suspicions that they were eaten by wild animals, but where are there wild animals with bullets in their mouths? I have a lot to say, but I can't speak, I am in a very bad state. They had been there for eight years and no one had harassed them. Where did this animal with a rifle in its mouth come from? God be my witness. What competition?! They shot them for 5 quintals of water... They killed me just because they drank water from the fields ," he said.

According to the owner of the herd, 22 horses were shot with shotguns. Four of them died immediately, while the rest were scattered around the area, some injured and some dying from their wounds.

The police found horse remains near the barn and on the outskirts of the barn, with clotted blood, indicating that the event had occurred recently.

According to him, despite the authorities being notified immediately, the police did not go to the scene to carry out verifications.

In the official statement, the police reported only one injured horse, while the suspected perpetrator was released on bail.

Konomi emphasizes that it has always been at the disposal of the police and that these horses were used for transportation and assistance during last summer's fires.
