On Sunday, the arrested members of what is considered the "first Albanian drug trafficking cartel" appeared before the Special Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption.

They are accused of trafficking extremely large amounts of cocaine, a matter that is being investigated by SPAK.

The focus of the investigation is on two large shipments: 11.6 tons of cocaine transported from Paraguay to Belgium, specifically to the port of Antwerp, and another 16.4 tons from Paraguay to Germany, in Hamburg.

Euronews Albania has published details from the voluminous file of the Special Prosecution's investigations, which began in 2023 and were referred by the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH).

"On 24.08.2023, investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation have referred information that they have data on involvement in criminal activity, that of drug trafficking and laundering of the proceeds of the criminal offense for citizens Ervis Cela, Ardjan Cela and Albin Cela. BKH refers that Ervis Cela and Ardjan Cela have been sentenced to prison for the criminal offense of murder. Specifically, the two Cela brothers have been declared wanted with a red card by the Interpol Central Office in Tirana after the Italian Judicial Authorities have issued an arrest warrant with no. 14/2013 dated 06.07.2016, for committing the criminal offense of "Murder & detention of a person", provided for by the Italian Criminal Code. Ervis Cela has been sentenced to 30 years in prison, the remaining 25 years and 10 months and 18 days of imprisonment," the SPAK file states.

The file also reveals the names of two Albanians who were arrested in 2020 in an apartment in the Netherlands with 600 kg of cocaine and 2 million euros in cash.

"Fadil Balla and his associates, Miklovan Mullaj, withdrew the quantity of narcotics from Franc Gergel's warehouse on 07.11.2020. The persons sent by Miklovan Mullaj to receive the narcotics were Muharrem Daja and Nilson Bakiu (Nasufi). Daja and Bakiu stored the narcotics at addresses number 737 in Strevelseeg in Rotterdam and apartment No. 176 on Hilleeeg Street in Rotterdam. At around 22:50, the Rotterdam Police, which had been monitoring Bakiu and Daja's apartment in Strevelseeg since September 2020, conducted a search of both apartments and seized 600 kg of cocaine and arrested citizens Muharrem Daja and Nilson Bakiu, who were sentenced to 5 years in prison in April 2021 for the criminal offense of committing in collaboration with acts contrary to the drug law.”

The voluminous file also includes hundreds of thousands of SMS messages parsed by the SKY ECC application and the nicknames of the traffickers.

"I have a lot of money in the Netherlands, I can't send it. From the context of the conversation, it is suspected that with the nickname "shijaksi", Ervis Cela refers to citizen Fadil Balla, for whom he asks his brother if he has handed over any amount of money. He also asks the same question about citizen Soni Pepa, to whom he refers with the nickname "Zhuu". Ervis asks his brother if he has already collected the suspected amount of 15 million euros. In this conversation, Ervis Çela also states that he has considerable amounts of money in the Netherlands, but there are no drivers to transport it to Albania.

On 10.09.2020, at 15:21:33, Ervis Çela communicates with Fadil Balla to whom he writes “You have 600 more S, Iani… You told me to put 110 pieces in… And I put them in… Don't ruin the coffin” and then sends him a photo with notes of obligations. Ervis continues the conversation by sending him text messages “You don't have a house anymore where to spend my money… Ahahahahaha. They are full…”

From the communications, it is suspected that the criminal group has also collaborated with a Brazilian citizen and in one case has also trafficked firearms.

"On 16.09.2020, at 13:22:32, Ervis Cela communicates with Franc Gergeli, to whom, after sending him several photos of automatic firearms with silencers mounted, he writes "6 are with silencers... they will be dismantled now and I will put them in a can, every canned weapon."
