Journalist Klodiana Lala revealed new details about the scandal of the TIMS system, where it is suspected that sensitive data of Albanian citizens was obtained.
Lala told News24 that the US embassy requested the initiation of investigations since among the persons whose data was breached are also US citizens.
She emphasized that it is suspected that State Police officials were involved in obtaining the data, and it is a question of a structured group.
"Among the persons whose data has been breached are also American citizens. The prosecution has not provided data regarding the officials or persons who are suspected of having intervened in an unauthorized manner in the TIMS system, it is also not clear why these data were illegally accessed and what they will be used for.
In Albania, sensitive data related to Albanian citizens were released, initially the government raised claims that government systems were attacked by Iranian hackers, but the latest case is not related to hacking, but to the direct involvement of State Police officials, but also other unauthorized persons who have interfered with the TIMS system and taken all the data from there.
This scandal is of great proportions. There are suspicions of a structured criminal group and the cooperation of several institutions to intervene and to have in their hands the sensitive data related to entry and exit into the territory of the Republic of Albania, but on the other hand, all the data on persons that are wanted or declared wanted by the Albanian police, and of course the release of these data to the public would damage investigative matters that are in the hands of the Albanian Prosecutor's Office, including SPAK", said journalist Klodiana Lala .
