Constitutional Court

The Supreme Court has announced a full list of 13 candidates for the vacant seat on the Constitutional Court, which will be vacated by Holta Zaçaj on March 10, 2025.

There are 13 candidates from the field of justice running for this position, including judges, former members of the High Prosecutorial Council and the High Judicial Council, as well as lawyers and jurists.

Specifically, it concerns:

1. Alban Toro

2. Alma Faskaj

3. Asim Vokshi

4. Denar Biba

5. Florjan Ballhysa

6. Genta Tafa

7. Irena Nino

8. Klodian Rado

9. Lulzim Hamitaj

10. Naureda Llagami

11. Nurihan Meta

12. Rezana Balla

13. Sinan Tafaj

Two of the candidates who have expressed interest are public commissioners Irena Nino and Florin Ballhysa. Other candidates are Nurihan Meta Seiti, former member of the KLP, and Alban Toro , former member of the KLGJ. Also, Klodian Rado, Rezana Balla and Sinan Tafaj have submitted their candidacy.

A familiar name on the list is Genta Bungo, former chair of the Independent Qualification Commission, which led the vetting process for judges and prosecutors.

Also in the competition are judge Asim Vokshi, Naureda Llagami, Florjan Ballhysa, Denar Biba, Alma Faskaj, Lulzim Hamitaj .

Names after names will be submitted for verification to the Judicial Appointments Council (JAC), which will prepare the final ranking.

Holta Zaçaj ends her term as a member of the Constitutional Court on March 10, 2025, although she opposed her departure, arguing that her term ended at the end of 2025.

But, after the vacancy was announced by Sokol Sadushi of the Supreme Court, the body of constitutional judges decided to terminate Zaçaj's mandate, thus resolving the dispute between the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court.
