The government has announced the competition for the election of the new chairman of the Public Procurement Commission. Through a call published in the Procurement Bulletin, the Prime Minister's Office invites interested persons to apply to be the chairman of the Public Procurement Commission.

According to the announcement, the applicant must meet a number of criteria, including not being under criminal proceedings for committing a criminal offense. “The applicant must submit a certificate from the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime that he or she is not under criminal proceedings for committing a criminal offense,” the announcement states.

In the announced call, the Prime Minister's Office announces that interested applicants have until January 27 to submit their applications.

Since July 2020, the Public Procurement Commission has been headed by Jonaid Myzyri. But previously, during the period 2015-2019, he held the position of inspector at this institution. During the past year, Mr. Myzyri has been summoned twice by SPAK, for a series of tenders, the most sensational issue being that of the sterilization concession.

In February last year, Myzyri was questioned for more than two hours by SPAK prosecutors regarding the Sterilization case. Myzyri became involved in the case after the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime ordered SPAK to also investigate the role of the Public Procurement Commission in the Sterilization affair.

However, Myzyr's official status in relation to SPAK is unknown. Is the current head of the KPP a person under investigation by SPAK or, further, has his name been entered in the criminal register and a criminal case has been opened against him?

If criminal proceedings are opened against him, then this would automatically disqualify Jonaid Myzyri from a possible re-election to the position of chairman of the KPP and the supreme tender institution will be headed by a new name.
