Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the fire situation in Kruja, where firefighting, military and police forces worked throughout the night to isolate and bring the flames under control.

Rama emphasizes that the operation ended with limited material damage, while no residents were harmed.

"It ended with only one warehouse burned down and no residents injured, an extraordinary battle with the fire on Kruja Mountain," Rama writes.

The Prime Minister praised the work of the forces engaged in the field, highlighting the difficulties they faced during the operation, especially due to the wind and the inability to use firefighting equipment from the air at night.

"Our fire, military and police forces faced the situation with heroism and outstanding professional skills, avoiding a balance that could have been tragic," Rama said.

He also conveyed a message of gratitude to the officers engaged in the field, describing them as "our frontline heroes" in this challenging August.

Over 200 personnel from civil emergency structures and the Armed Forces, around 80 Fire Protection and Rescue personnel, 21 firefighting vehicles, 3 helicopters, a Bayraktar TB2 drone and two AKMC thermal camera drones were involved in the fire extinguishing operation.

Rama also shared the message from a resident of Kruja, who during the night requested reinforcements due to the rapid spread of the fire by the wind.

"They are working like heroes, may God reward them... but the wind is spreading it very quickly. If it is possible for other reinforcements... the state is standing firm," the message published by the prime minister states.

Rama's full reaction:

"It ended with only one warehouse burned down and no residents injured, an extraordinary battle with the fire on the Kruja mountain, where in the presence of wind and the inability at night to use firefighting equipment from the air, our firefighting, military and police troops faced it with heroism and outstanding professional skills, avoiding a balance that could have been tragic as is unfortunately happening in other European countries in this scorching summer.

Respect and gratitude to our heroes on the front lines of this challenging August, where last night the residents of Kruja saw that they were not alone in their extremely difficult hours, as evidenced by this message among several that they sent me last night at night: "Mr. Prime Minister! Please, the fire is taking on huge proportions in Kruja! They are working like heroes, may God reward them ... but the wind is spreading it very quickly. If it is possible for other reinforcements. The whole country is on its feet."
