Fire "surrounds" Kruja, situation improves! Only 2 active fires

For several hours, Kruja was surrounded by fire, while hundreds of residents left their homes amid fears that the flames could take everything.

The most difficult situation was in Barabit and Lluban. The fire, favored by the wind, advanced rapidly towards residential areas. Hundreds of citizens were evacuated, while there were also those who refused to abandon their homes. Faced with the danger, the authorities were forced to forcibly remove them.

The Kruja Hospital was also threatened by the flames. The fire came within about 50 meters of the building and patients were evacuated during the night to be taken to Tirana.

The battle with the fire continued for hours. The difficult terrain and the rapid spread of the flames made the intervention even more complicated. Electricity was cut off in 5 neighborhoods, while local structures were engaged in housing the evacuated residents.

Firefighters and the Armed Forces worked throughout the night to extinguish the fire.

Two fires still remain active, while two helicopters have launched an aerial operation to fully bring the flames under control.

Qemal Berhami has been arrested for the fire. According to police, he had lit a fire near his house, but the flames got out of control and spread rapidly, putting part of Kruja at risk.
