One of the questions in Parliament from opposition MPs was related to the incident that occurred days ago at the Elbasan Court, where the prosecutor of one of the files requested the arrest of lawyer Ulian Barjami for intimidation and threats during the hearing.
The legal defender was released from custody during the security measure, but the event caused a lot of uproar and strong political reactions.
Prosecutor General Olsian Çela responded that this was a case for reflection and that the completion of the inspection by the ILD was awaited regarding the matter.
But he stressed that he has asked prosecutors to be lenient with the restrictive measures of imprisonment. According to him, solitary confinement should be the last measure applied, depending on the criminal offense.
"The case in question may be a reflection. We have asked prosecutors that the measure of arrest should be the last measure required and the assessment should be very careful. Criminal offenses are subject to a report, but we have tried to have a reduction in extreme measures. The case in question should not have happened. But the measure of arrest in prison is extreme and unjustifiable," said Çela.
When asked if there were other similar events, he said there were none, but emphasized the soft security measures and that he was awaiting the results of the ILD regarding the arrest of the lawyer and the incident with the prosecutor.
"There is no other similar case, to my knowledge there has not been. But I am aware that there is an investigation by the ILD into this case, where the relevant conclusions will be drawn," the chief prosecutor concluded.
