For Hashim Thaci, the account with the Specialist Chambers in The Hague is not yet closed: On November 17, at 10:00 am, the verdict against the former president of Kosovo and four other defendants for criminal offenses against the administration of justice will be announced.

The prosecution has requested six years in prison for Thaçi, three years each for Bashkim Smakaj, Isni Kilaj and Fadil Fazliu, and nine months for Hajredin Kuçi.

All five defendants have pleaded not guilty, while Thaçi's defense has requested his release, arguing that there is a lack of evidence for conviction.

According to the indictment, Thaçi is suspected of having, during 2023, conveyed confidential information about witnesses and instructions to influence their testimonies to visitors in detention, with the alleged involvement of other defendants.

During the start of the trial, in February of this year, the prosecution also released audio recordings from Thaçi's meetings with visitors in detention, which, according to it, supported allegations of attempts to influence witness testimonies.

This process is separate from the war crimes trial, in which Thaçi was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The prosecution has requested that, if he is also found guilty of obstruction of justice, he serve the new sentence after the completion of the first sentence, and not simultaneously, which means that the periods of imprisonment will be counted one after the other.
