The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, accused Ilir Meta tonight that in 2015, he tried to prevent the opening of files. In a television interview, Veliaj underlined that former Speaker Meta tried several times not to allow the files to be opened at that time.

"I know that experience; Ilir Meta was the Speaker of the Assembly. The request of our Ministry was that Albania could not be compared with Russia, for not opening the files. We decide to imitate the German process. This was the motive of this effort when, together with Genta, we made that proposal. Ilir Meta told us at that time that the proposal is very good, but don't you have problems in SP? At that moment, Ilir Meta brings another claim and says: if the Bezhani and Mezini commission has given some grocery letters, which says that you don't have a file and you are not part of Sigurimi even if you can't find the file at all, then let's not make you a double work. I admit, I was ignorant in this field and I said it is important not to repeat the work. But an anomaly has arisen from that proposal, where the Authority says that grocery letters were given without asking for it and without opening the file at all. But the need showed that even if their own files were not found or requested, unlike the Bezhani and Mezini law, where the files were in the Ministry of the Interior, with the law we passed in 2015, all the files were made available to the Authority".said Veliaj.

Veliaj raised suspicions that the files may have disappeared on purpose to hide his past as an associate of the State Security.

"Rightly, the head of the Commission comes with a request and says so-and-so, so-and-so does not have the missing files. They may have disappeared their files for the sake of a political compromise, but if I am not Ilir Metaj's spy and in the meantime I have disappeared my political file from this agreement with Berisha, while I was spying, they are in their files. This should not make me immune from seeing my contribution in everyone's files. Rightfully, a collegial commission has said: Let's open these sheets and if your root folder has disappeared, your branch folder where you spied should come out. Rightfully, the commission tells the Assembly that we found out that these files exist and tells it, will you remove this obstacle? That's all", underlined Veliaj.
