Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu says that the chairman of the Freedom Party will not compete against the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj in the next local elections in 2023.

In an interview for "Euronews Albania", Spahiu stated that Meta is lost in front of Veliaj, even according to him, even the chairman of LZHK, Dashamir Shehi, is a stronger candidate.

Spahiu said that Meta does not get votes from the right and added that even the chief democrat, Slai Berisha, would not want him to take the lead in the opposition.

"First of all, Mr. Meta himself will not run because from being president, prime minister or speaker of the parliament, you cannot run for mayor. For Ilir Meta, nothing is better than nothing and loss. Meta will prefer nothing to losing against Erion Veliaj. I am convinced that Erion Veliaj, the easiest candidate he will face, is Ilir Meta.

I think that any other candidate, including Dash Sheh, or any candidate, would be stronger than Ilir Meta, because Ilir Meta does not receive votes from the right. Ilir Meta needs the cheese only as a crutch, but in no case to take the lead. "Even Berisha himself would not want Ilir Meta to become mayor", emphasized Spahiu.
