The Government starts the promise of salary increase with the President of the Republic, Bajram Begajt.

According to the decision taken at this Friday's meeting of the Council of Ministers, Begaj's salary jumps to 170,000 lek more per month.

The decision brings the President's salary to 425,000 ALL, from 255,000 ALL, or an increase of 60 percent of the salary.

The new figure jumps the Albanian head of state into the group of the highest paid state leaders in the region.

The government has also promised substantial salary increases in the state administration, with the objective of increasing the level of the average salary to 900 euros within a year.

Currently, the average salary in Albania is 560 euros.
