Why aren't the two most voted candidates in the DP running against Sali

The Democratic Party has officially opened the race for party leadership.

The only candidate so far is Sali Berisha.

And it seems that until the end, there will be no other candidate (a couple of names mentioned in the left-wing media as candidates are no longer part of the DP and are therefore automatically excluded).

At a time when the DP talks daily about dictatorship by Edi Rama, they are acting exactly like him.

And this, out of fear that someone would come forward and run against Sali Berisha, which would be the most normal thing in the world, especially for those who aspire to declare the DP the winner and remove the "greatest evil" of this country, Edi Rama, from leading Albania.

Sali Berisha cannot do this, and the last elections showed this.

Therefore, if they are serious about the battle to declare the DP the winner and remove Edi Rama, they should come out publicly and challenge Berisha.

At least two of them, who have also resulted in the most votes in the DP.

We are talking about Jorida Tabaku, who received 18,000 votes in the elections of May 11, 2025, and Ilir Alimehmet, who received 17,500 votes and was unable to enter the Assembly due to closed lists.

They turned out to be the most voted for in the DP, even though they were not publicly considered Berisha's people, as they were left out of the safe list, which included people who even their own tribe does not vote for.

But both Tabaku and Alimehmeti, apparently, think about their careers more than about the future of the DP and Albania.

And they believe they are safer if they stay in Berisha's shadow, in the hope that one day he will leave on his own.
