The opposition will not be united for the protest called on December 6, when all the top European figures will come to Tirana, as the first EU-Western Balkan Summit will be held. The head of PR, Fatmir Mediu, one of Sali Berisha's old allies, says he will not be present if the protest is held on December 6.
During a television interview, Mediu said that that day he will be in Washington, at a meeting of the Democratic International. For that, the opposition should consult with its partners for the protest, such as the European People's Parties and the European Conservative Parties.
"I definitely appreciate that the protest is one of the most necessary political elements, especially the opposition. But nobody asked me about the December 6 protest, nor did anyone ask me for my opinion. But what I want to say is that the protest should not be turned into an end in itself of the opposition. There are several areas in which the opposition must work.
Since we are in front of an important summit, the relationship between the Democratic or Republican Party and other opposition parties is important, in such moments we must have a common attitude with our partners, with the European People's Parties, with the Conservative Parties. European, even with those people or European decision-making centers, so that we don't create wrong perceptions that could turn into a disadvantage for the opposition.
If they had asked me, I would have said in the first place that we should definitely consult with the European People's Parties, which have the main weight not only in the EP, but in the largest decision-making centers, in order not to leave a path for misinterpretations or abuses with opposition political activity" said Mediu.
