The meeting between Gazment Bardhi and Edi Paloka in a coffee bar in front of the Parliament ended after more than an hour. After the end of the meeting, Paloka told the journalists that as soon as there is something concrete, it will be communicated to the journalists.
However, the representative of Berisha's group emphasized that the negotiations have not failed and that this meeting will be followed by another one. On the other hand, Gazment Bardhi from the Alibeaj group has refused to speak to the media.
We recall that the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, gathered the political leaders of the districts on Monday in the blue headquarters to discuss the political action of the opposition and also the start of the primaries process. In the ranks of Berisha, there is optimism that the merger can happen.
But parallel to Berisha's meeting, in the Parliament of Albania, Enkelejd Alibeaj called his parliamentary group deputies. In the meeting with closed doors, Gazment Bardhi explained to the deputies the communication with Edi Paloka, where unlike the optimism among the deputies of Berisha, he expressed skepticism.
" A few days ago I agreed to be the person to contact Mr. Paloka, who was mandated by the other group of PD colleagues. I want to clarify that I have been in communication with Mr. Paloka, but we have not met because he was abroad. We agreed to meet on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, in parallel with this anticipated meeting with Mr. Paloka from the media I am aware of a meeting that will take place in PD for the start of the primaries process. This makes us face a fait accompli. But I will stand by the will of the majority to the end to carry out any discussion in order to come out with a common candidate in the local elections ".
Faced with being placed in fait accompli positions, MPs Agron Gjekmarkaj and Flutura Açka asked their colleagues in the Alibeaj group to start work on holding meetings and identifying potential candidates to come up with specific names if the negotiations fail. Such a scenario would lead the Democratic Party and the opposition to the positions of March 6, where they emerged with 2 candidates and were defeated in 5 of the 6 municipalities where they contested.
