Former Democratic Party MP, Edmond Spaho, has highlighted the party's lack of reaction to the start of the trial on the merits of Ilir Meta and the refusal to publicly broadcast the session.
He writes on social media that no DP leader has spoken out or protested about the former president being held in a cage, a sign that the party and its chairman, Sali Berisha, have forgotten PL and Meta.
Spaho listed the cases when the LSI, now the Freedom Party, helped the DP gain power and the "catastrophic" result when the latter refused to stand by it. He states that regardless of whether the former prime minister is guilty or not, he should have been strongly supported for the two causes raised.
" I followed the trial of Ilir Meta today and the reaction of politics, especially the opposition, for keeping him in a cage and refusing to broadcast the trial to the public.
I was reminded of many past events that I witnessed:
The SMI brought the DP to power in the 2005 elections. Without the votes that the SMI and its candidates took away from the SP, the opposition would not have come to power.
The SMI kept the DP in power in 2009 with its four mandates.
The DP did not prefer to join forces with the SMI in the 2017 elections. It made a co-government agreement with Edi Rama. The catastrophic result is known.
For the political but idiotic objectives of the DP, the SMI agreed to burn its mandates in 2019.
LSI was deliberately not accepted as part of the joint opposition lists in the 2021 elections. For this reason, we lost the elections with a difference of 30 thousand votes with the SP.
The SMI supported the Reestablishment as if it were part of it.
Today, no leader in the DP spoke or protested, even formally, for Ilir Meta, who is being held in a cage and who refuses to allow the trial to be broadcast to the public.
The DP has forgotten its ally SMI/PL and Berisha forgot Mete.
Great shame also for some DP MPs who have earned their living in politics due to their connections with Meta and the PL.
"I don't know if Ilir Meta is guilty or not, but he was right on both issues raised and should have been strongly supported ," Spaho writes.
