Former Minister of Justice and one of Ilir Meta's early associates, Ylli Manjani, has made a strong reaction to the physical transformation of the former President of the Republic, whose appearance today in the Special Court has caught everyone's attention.
It was the first time Ilir Meta had been seen since he was arrested in October 2024, with his appearance completely transformed, with a weakened physique, many kilograms underweight and almost hairless.
And for this, Ylli Manjani says that Ilir Meta is being punished with an arrest measure that deprives him of his freedom.
"That is, there are many people who see prison as a holiday camp. A place of comfort where people drink and have fun."
Not only should trials be broadcast live, but sometimes it's good to also broadcast live footage from prisons. We need to see firsthand what's going on there and how it relates to what's being said.
Journalists and MPs should even be allowed to visit prisons, where the smell of the perfume they put on in the morning can be confused with the aroma of leeks or peppers fried in burning oil.
Ilir Meta's physical appearance indicates punishment, not isolation for the sake of investigation. Punishment is a medieval term and has nothing to do with isolation for the sake of investigation.
Imprisonment in Albania is nothing less, nothing more, but PUNISHMENT! That's what the propaganda says: "the end of impunity."
The appearance of Ilir Meta is living proof of the popular punishment of today's justice.
If you wish someone punishment, that is punishment.
Think about your own skin before you wish it on someone else.
And finally, I'm repeating what I've been saying for over 10 years: punish the guilty and don't punish the person!
"Laws of imprisonment for the sake of pleasing the crowds must be buried," he writes.
