The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting with Christian Forneck , advisor for foreign and security policy to the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag.

At the end of the meeting, in a statement to the media, Berisha stated that Albania's integration into the EU should be based on merit.

Berisha: We agreed to intensify cooperation in the best interest of the process of Albania's integration into the EU, which, I emphasize once again, must be a merit-based process, because only a merit-based process is in the absolute interest of Albanian citizens. It is the absolute best interest of EU citizens. An Albania, an operational epicenter of criminal organizations in the region, Europe and the world, as described in several State Department reports, is a real threat to peace, security in Albania, the region and beyond. Therefore, the conditions, in my opinion, that we agree with friends, must be a merit-based process, which all possibilities exist, but not with Edi Rama. Edi Rama is the main leader of drug clans in Albania.
