Tomorrow, Albania will hold an intergovernmental roundtable to launch the process of closing negotiations and group chapters with the European Union in Brussels.
On the eve of this meeting, former Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Socialist MP Elisa Spiropali, also reacted.
As she calls it in her post on the social network, accompanying it with a photo album as "Europe Day for Albania", the former minister points out that EU membership is not just a political or diplomatic platform nor a European passport, but entry into a space where the law has a different weight.
"Membership in the European Union is not just a European passport in the formal sense. It is entry into a space where law, competition, freedom and dignity of the citizen have another weight. And for a country like Albania, which for decades has seen Europe as a horizon of hope and normality, this path remains one of the greatest historical achievements of the Albanian state," she writes, among other things.
Spiropali emphasizes that the fact that Albania needs vision, clarity and more enthusiasm in all areas is very important to reach the final day.
"But precisely because we are close to this moment, Albania needs more than enthusiasm. It needs clarity. It needs political and civic courage."
We need a precise state and social platform for the European Albania that we want to build, a detailed vision for institutions, justice, economy, education, administration and freedom, so that the country does not enter Europe surprised by its standards, but prepared for them with full awareness.
"The day when Albania will light the fireworks of membership should not be the end of a road, but it should be the day when Albania is ready, without fear and without improvisation, to sit naturally at the table of the confederation of European nations," the former minister emphasizes.
Among the photos she shared were those during her time as minister with senior EU officials, including one with Marta Kos on the streets of the Albanian capital.

"Europe Day for Albania"
Tomorrow, Albania enters a new phase of its European path, with the first step towards the conclusion of negotiations with the European Union, a moment that has not come by chance, but after a long path of efforts, clashes, expectations, patience and a constant belief that our country naturally belongs to the European family.
For Albania, Europe has never been just a political or diplomatic project. It has been the desire to build a fairer and more democratic state, stronger institutions, a more competitive economy and a society where young people do not see their future only abroad. Therefore, this process is not only related to the opening or closing of technical chapters of negotiations, but to what it means to live as a European citizen, with more legal certainty, more justice, more standards for the economy, more free movement, more confidence for investments and more opportunities for generations to come.
Membership in the European Union is not just a European passport in the formal sense. It is entry into a space where law, competition, freedom and the dignity of the citizen have another weight. And for a country like Albania, which for decades has seen Europe as a horizon of hope and normality, this path remains one of the greatest historical achievements of the Albanian state.
But precisely because we are close to this moment, Albania needs more than enthusiasm. It needs clarity. It needs political and civic courage. It needs a precise state and social platform for the European Albania that we want to build, a detailed vision for institutions, justice, economy, education, administration and freedom, so that the country does not enter Europe surprised by its standards, but prepared for them with full awareness.
The day when Albania will light the fireworks of membership should not be the end of a road, but it should be the day when Albania is ready, without fear and without improvisation, to sit naturally at the table of the confederation of European nations.
