This Monday, the Constitutional Court judges gathered again on the case of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj .

Mayor Veliaj is currently facing justice in the Anti-Corruption Court as a SPAK defendant on charges of corruption and money laundering, suspicions for which he has been detained since February 2025.

Following the request of 11 defendants for a summary trial, the file with 30 defendants was divided into two parts.

One of them, where former MP Klotilda Bushka and several businessmen are. In the other, which is with ordinary trial, in which Veliaj is also, there will be a first session again, opening from the beginning on May 26th.

Veliaj's lawyers have requested, just as in the administrative trial, that the criminal case be broadcast live, while insisting on confronting the court not in a glass cage, but in the courtroom.

Meanwhile, his latest request dated May 6 was registered immediately after the joint panels expressed their decision on the approach that the judiciary should take in relation to personal security measures, where according to the court, arrest in prison should be the last resort and the dangerousness should also be argued by the prosecution and judges based on the suspect's personality.

The Supreme Court directed that justice should apply other measures and that the burden of proof for the charges lies with the prosecution./ Tch
