The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, described Saturday as "one of the brightest days of democracy in Albania," during a press conference this Monday.
Berisha expressed his "endless gratitude" for the citizens who responded to the opposition's call, despite, according to him, the "aggressive propaganda of the state mafia" and the majority's efforts to influence the political process.
He accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of attempting to include “criminal elements” in the political race, while also criticizing former members of the Democratic Party who have created new political parties. According to Berisha, these moves aim to favor the majority.
"So, that was a historic day," the Democratic leader declared.
Asked about congratulations following Saturday's political developments, Berisha said that he has received congratulatory messages from his friends and expects to receive more.
"I've received congratulations from my friends, I expect congratulations, but to be honest, I can't say that I'm one of those who sends a lot of congratulations, so in this case there is a kind of reciprocity," he said.
