Today, the Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, received his counterpart, the Minister of Defense of Greece, Nikos Dendias.
The focus of this official visit was the strengthening of bilateral Albania-Greece cooperation and the continuation of close dialogue in the field of defense and security.
Appreciating Greece's support for Albania's European journey, Ermal Nufi focused on promoting regional stability and security, especially in the Western Balkans - which remains a common strategic priority of our two countries.
Nufi stated that: "Albania's main objective in the region remains the advancement of political stability, security and sustainable economic development. For this reason, we are present with personnel in EUFOR ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in KFOR in Kosovo.
Also, Albanian and Greek naval forces maintain excellent coordination and interoperability through missions in the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, including NATO's Operation Sea Guardian.
Meanwhile, Albania is currently undertaking efforts to strengthen and modernize its naval fleet, which will further enhance maritime security and the presence of Allies in the Adriatic-Ionian region.”
Minister Nufi also appreciated the current strong interaction between military personnel through joint activities, military education, training programs and exchange of expertise; while emphasizing the particular importance of revitalizing the technical protocol on military medical cooperation between our two countries.
"We believe that we should aim to reactivate this framework, especially in the areas of specialized healthcare, medical training and professional exchanges, in the spirit of mutual benefit and strategic partnership." - said Nufi during the conversation with his counterpart Dendias.
During the meeting, both sides also jointly assessed the increased efforts for capacity development and military-industrial cooperation as key priorities for all Allies, especially in light of the dynamics and decisions of NATO and the European Union.
