Bardhi: The Assembly granted political protection to Balluk, SPAK has not yet
Gazment Bardhi

Gazment Bardhi raised concerns about the case of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku before the meeting of the Albania-EU Stabilization and Association Committee, stating that the Assembly's vote not to lift her immunity was political protection for her. He brought to attention the seizure of Balluku's second villa in Palasa and the failure to submit SPAK's request for her arrest.

Bardhi added that there has been no regretful reaction from the majority, while parliament should seek transparency and not interfere in justice matters.

"The Assembly offered her political protection from arrest by not lifting her immunity on the grounds that she is not corrupt, but abused her power. 11 days ago, SPAK officially announced that it had managed to uncover another corruption case involving Belinda Balluku, a super luxury villa on one of the most beautiful beaches in the south. In 3 months, 2 luxury villas have been discovered in exchange for 2 tenders. SPAK has not yet filed a new request to lift her immunity, even though she is facing 2 charges of corruption, 2 charges of money laundering in collaboration, 2 charges of concealing assets and 8 charges of violating equality in tenders. The majority colleagues have not expressed any remorse. I want to say it very clearly: it is not the duty of politics to declare people guilty. Only the court does this. But it is the duty of parliament to demand political accountability and transparency when serious doubts are raised about the way in which the "It is the duty of Parliament to give a clear message that it supports the fight against corruption, that it does not support any corrupt official, and that it does not intervene in justice matters to protect the corrupt. Democracy is tested when justice can investigate the government," said Bardhi.
