Arben Ahmetaj has given an interview to Der Spiegel from Lugano, where he has been in for months, since being announced in search by SPAK.

He says that Rama wants to make a scapee, but does not explain what anger Rama has with him, who wants to take revenge on him, at a time that for years, has given him key positions in the government.

"Do you bother if you smoke a cigar?" asks Arben Ahmetaj when we meet on a café terrace in downtown Lugano.

Ahmetaj is a figure who was considered a rising star of albanian socialists from a young age. Despite an international arrest warrant, he is currently enjoying exile in Lugano and hopes for political asylum in Switzerland.

Ahmetaj puts cold cigar in the backyeat and talks about his relationship with Ram, whom he sometimes calls "Kim Jong Un" referring to the North Korean dictator.


"I'm not prepared to play like a Turk head. He benefited from the US and EU-funded justice reform. Now he is using the justice system against his political opponents and against anyone who opposes his bid for power."

The former deputy prime minister says he doubts the Rama system is being tolerated quietly in the West: "I have no idea why Europeans don't want to see what is happening in Albania. They have excellent intelligence services that know everything in detail, especially money laundering and organized crime."

Ahmetaj confirms the findings of investigators that Albania became a narco-state fueled by drug trafficking during Theota's term.

"The influx of cannabis into the country from 2014 to 2017 was the hidden economic agenda of the prime minister. The growth of organized crime that it fostered has massively changed the Albanian economy and society. Rama believes he can still control the criminal environment, but for a long time it is being controlled."
