The American Embassy in Tirana reacted after the decision of the Assembly not to send the mandate of Olta Xhaçka to the Constitutional Court.

After the Delegation of the European Union in Tirana, the American embassy also expressed concern about this decision.

"The US Embassy shares the concern of the Delegation of the European Union regarding the decision of the Parliament of Albania to ignore a decision of the Constitutional Court. As the Speaker of the Parliament recently observed, taking the necessary steps for the decisions of the Constitutional Court is the central responsibility of the Parliament and is also vital for the separation of powers," the embassy said in a statement.

"Government and institutions must respect rules, laws, court decisions and the constitution - all of which are there to ensure that the democratic system is healthy and flourishing."
