The Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, announced on September 9 the appointment of the personal security measure "house arrest" against the mayor Rexhë Byberi and the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Tropoja, accused of "abuse of duty", after having committed acts of omissions that are considered regular non-fulfilment of the duty, contrary to the legal and by-laws in force.
According to SPAK, it is suspected that the illegalities for which the mayor of Tropoja, Rexhë Byberi and his deputy, Abedin Kirnaja are accused, are related to the opening of roads according to the projects approved by the municipal council.
But it seems that the measure of arrest has not stopped Rexë Byberi from appointing the commanding mayor of the municipality, who, in this case, according to the law, must be appointed by the municipal council.

Byberi has appointed the other deputy mayor, Zyra Islamaj, as mayor of Tropoja until further notice.
