Another Earth, but much larger. This appears to be the discovery made by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which one of its researchers, Max Kroft, will present in the scientific journal "The Astronomical Journal".

The new planet is rocky like Earth, 2.5 times larger. In effect, a mega-Earth about 87 light-years away, a rather anomalous combination of mass and size.

According to Kroft, it is easy to find rocky planets similar to Earth in space, but they are usually much smaller, but this time it is two and a half times larger. This one is classified as a second Earth, a different Earth. It is rocky, but its mass is so large for this type of planet that it is more similar to that of gaseous planets, such as Saturn or Jupiter. The new planet has been called “GJ-523-B”.

Observations, made in Arizona with a telescope, show that this planet is relatively young, 170 million years old, orbits its star every 17.75 days and has a radius 2.55 times that of Earth.

A real puzzle for scientists, who will now have to start searching for other similar planets to decipher what appears to be a mystery to the planetary formation models studied so far.
