For 3 days in a row, since Tuesday, a student protest has been taking place in Tirana, where thousands of young people have poured into the streets with the main demand for the resignation of the prime minister. However, in addition to attacks on institutions, which can be considered legitimate as long as their anger is directed at misgovernment, media representatives have also become targets.

Today, Dorjana Bezat, one of the long-time journalists of the chronicle, was attacked by protesters, while earlier her colleague from Albania Live on Top Channel suffered the same fate. Protesters also violated the Report TV camera, and insulted journalist Raziela Myslymi, who was reporting on the protest.

Young people claim that the media is sold out, but one of the earliest postulates of the people's relationship with the media is that the messenger is unaffected.

Doriana, Raziela and their colleagues who have fallen prey to attacks, before being journalists for the media outlets they work for, are daughters, mothers and worthy citizens of the capital.

Media workers are the ones who particularly suffer the costs of long days of protests, unscheduled reporting, and weeks without a day off.

Therefore, before you think of the media as your adversary, consider that many of the journalists are engaged citizens of this country, who, with their words, try to make a small contribution to changing society.

But protesters are not the only ones who have made the work of journalists difficult, as police violence has also been present against them, either with tear gas or by obstructing them from carrying out their duties.

According to the Journalists Association of Albania (AGSH), the number of incidents reported and documented by AGSH during the three days of protests, October 13–15, reaches at least 11. The repetition of these events constitutes a serious concern for media freedom and the safety of journalists in Albania./Shekulli
