VIDEO: Israel attacks Iran's largest gas facility

Iran's state television reported that Israel and the US today attacked Iranian facilities in the Persian Gulf, which are the world's largest gas fields.

"A short while ago, parts of the South Pars gas field facilities, located in the port city of Kangan, were hit by missiles from the American Zionist enemy," the television reported, citing the deputy governor of the southern province of Bushehr.

Firefighters have been dispatched to the scene to bring the flames under control.

An Israeli official told the Jerusalem Post that the attack was carried out in coordination with the US.

South Pars has the largest deposits that Iran shares with Qatar and provides about 70% of the natural gas consumed in the country.

Shortly thereafter, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps issued evacuation orders for five energy facilities in the Persian Gulf, with Tehran threatening retaliation.

Iran has issued an evacuation warning for oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, saying they will be targeted in the "coming hours", Iranian state media reported today.

The warning concerns the Samerf refinery and Jubail petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia, the Al Hosn field in the United Arab Emirates, the Mesaieed petrochemical complex and company in Saudi Arabia, and the Ras Laffan refinery in Qatar.

"These centers have become immediate and legitimate targets and will be targets in the coming hours. Therefore, all citizens, residents and employees are requested to immediately leave these areas and relocate to a safe distance without delay," the statement said.

Prices rise after attack on Iran oil fields

After the attack, oil prices rose above $108 per barrel. The benchmark Brent crude oil price reached $108.60 per barrel, up 5% from Tuesday's price and remaining above $107.
