A federal court in the US has ruled that more than 1,000 Voice of America employees must return to work, resume broadcasting, and fully operate the institution.

This decision comes after it emerged that the person chosen by President Donald Trump to oversee massive job cuts at the Voice of America was appointed illegally, making the job cuts invalid.

The Voice of America was created after World War II as one of the US's main instruments for international reporting. After taking office for a second time, Trump attacked the media, claiming it was obstructing and attacking his government.
