Saying 'No' to Trump on Hormuz, Macron explains why France refused to
Macron and Trump

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France will not participate in operations to open or secure the Strait of Hormuz in the current context.

Macron added that France is only ready to get involved once the situation calms down and "the essence of the bombing has stopped," implying that there is no clear timeline for involvement.

He also stressed that any operation must be the result of joint agreements and coordination with other countries.

Macron's statement comes as former US President Donald Trump has called for more active involvement of NATO allies to protect American interests and free the Strait of Hormuz from Iranian threats. Trump has stressed that the US is ready to act even without the help of allies.

Thus, while France and some allies are seeking to calm the situation before engaging, Trump is seeking immediate and more aggressive action, urging a coordinated operation by NATO countries.
