US President Donald Trump has said that most NATO allies have not expressed a willingness to engage in military action against Iran, adding that there has been support from these countries for the position that Tehran should not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
In his response, Trump criticized the alliance as "a one-way street," emphasizing that the US has achieved major military successes against Iran and does not need the support of international partners.
Donald Trump's full statement :
The United States has been informed by most of our NATO “allies” that they do not want to be involved in our Military Operation against the Terrorist Regime of Iran in the Middle East, despite the fact that almost every country strongly agrees with what we are doing, and that Iran cannot be allowed, in any way, shape, or form, to have a nuclear weapon.
However, I am not surprised by their action, because I have always considered NATO, where we spend hundreds of billions of dollars a year defending these countries, as a one-way street – We will defend them, but they will do nothing for us, especially in a time of need.
Fortunately, we have destroyed Iran’s military – their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their Anti-Aircraft and Radar are gone and perhaps, most importantly, their leaders, at almost every level, are gone, never to threaten us, our Middle Eastern allies or the world again! Due to the fact that we have had such military success, we no longer “need” or want the help of NATO countries – we never did!
Likewise, Japan, Australia or South Korea. In fact, speaking as the President of the United States of America, the most powerful country in the world, we don't need anyone's help! Thank you for your attention to this issue.
